Accessibility Services

The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) is dedicated to ensuring a seamless and accommodating experience for travelers with accessibility and reduced mobility requirements at McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS). We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to access air travel, and we are committed to provide exceptional services to all our customers.

Access beyond the TSA Screening Checkpoint is limited to ticketed passengers only. However, we understand that special circumstances may arise, especially for travelers with specific needs. Airlines may grant permission for an individual to accompany a passenger requiring additional assistance beyond the checkpoint. This access is subject to TSA screening procedures. For detailed information on this process, we recommend contacting your airline.

Travelers requiring wheelchair assistance can easily make arrangements directly through their airline. We strongly recommend making those requests in advance. In addition, the airport has customer service representatives available for additional assistance from 5 a.m.-7 p.m. If you need wheelchair assistance from your vehicle, please notify airport customer service at (865) 342-3180 or the traffic officers located on the curbside roadways.

The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) respects the rights and privileges of all patrons who enter McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) for their travel needs. Access to use and maneuver within the airport by persons with a disability is regulated by the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) under Title II and other applicable laws and regulations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Passengers over the age of 18 are required to show a photo driver’s license, passport, or other government issued identification. For a list of acceptable identification, click here. Minors are not required to have a government issued photo ID, but passengers should check with their airlines to see if minors need documentation for proof of age.

Starting on May 7, 2025, passengers will need a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification to fly within the U.S. For more information, please visit tsa.gov/real-id.

Standard rates are $1 per 20 minutes. Short Term Parking (7’ 2”) is $22 per day. Long Term Parking (7’ 10”) is $16 per day. Economy Parking is $11 per day. Taller vehicles or buses must contact Republic Parking in advance at 865-970-2749. If length of stay is greater than 30 days, please contact Republic Parking in advance.

The Airport Authority only accepts applications for open positions. Full-time positions will be posted in the Knoxville News-Sentinel and on our website here. Airport tenants such as the airlines, rental cars, food/retail concessions, security/screening companies, and other businesses do their own hiring and will need to be contacted directly regarding employment opportunities.

If a complaint involves an airline’s fares, service, schedules, or personnel, a formal complaint should be filed with the appropriate airline. Contact information for each airline’s customer service department is available on the Airlines at TYS page.

The information booth is located on the first floor of the airport in the baggage claim area. The info booth is staffed with airport representatives daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Community brochures featuring attractions throughout the city are available, as well as maps and driving directions.
